The summer transfer window witnessed some big spending on players.

In this article, the author will complete a statistical analysis of Barcelona F.C.’s signing of Anthony Gordon.

Anthony Gordon
From: Newcastle United F.C. to Barcelona F.C.
Transfer Fee: 69.3 million pounds inclusive of add ons

In terms of his most recent statistics, they can be summarised as follows, for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 English Premier League (EPL) season.

2024/25
Appearances: 34
Goals: 6
Assists: 5

2025/26
Appearances: 26
Goals: 6
Assists: 2

Now, let’s compare Anthony Gordon to two other EPL players who also play left winger like Anthony Gordon.

1. Harry Wilson, Fulham F.C.

2. Dango Ouattara, Brentford F.C.

Harry Wilson
2024/25
Appearances: 25
Goals: 6
Assists: 1

2025/26
Appearances: 36
Goals: 10
Assists: 7

Dango Ouattara
2025/26
Appearances: 32
Goals: 7
Assists: 3

2024/25
Appearances: 32
Goals: 7
Assists: 4

Based on these statistics, in my opinion, the following observations can be made:

o Wilson and Ouattara have outperformed Gordon in terms of goals over the past two seasons

o All three players have had similar outputs in terms of assists (between 7-8 assists)

Of course, any transfer deal has many other factors at play: age, position, the status of the selling club, the status of the player’s contract, the player’s medical history, and the player’s total number of national and/or international appearances.

Naturally, we will have to wait to see what happens. Gordon may prove to be the signing of the season, or even, the decade.

But the importance of value for money in modern football cannot be underestimated.
